A region on New Zealand’s North Island, centered on the Bay of Plenty and administered by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

Bay of Plenty: A large coastal indentation on New Zealand’s North Island, named by James Cook in 1769. The region takes its name from this coastal feature and extends around its shores.

James Cook: A British naval officer and explorer who charted parts of the Pacific in the eighteenth century. Cook named the Bay of Plenty during his 1769 voyage along New Zealand’s coast.
Tauranga: A port city in the Bay of Plenty and the largest urban area in the region. It is the region’s principal city and a major commercial centre.
Bay of Plenty horticulture: The cultivation of fruit and other crops across the Bay of Plenty region. Horticulture is a major land use and source of regional employment.
