Benishangul-Gumuz Region

Benishangul-Gumuz is a regional state in western Ethiopia, bordering Sudan and South Sudan. Its population includes the Benishangul and Gumuz peoples, among others.

Gumuz people: The Gumuz are an Indigenous people of western Ethiopia and neighboring Sudan, with communities in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region. They are one of the region’s two peoples named in its official title.
Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front: The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front was a coalition that led Ethiopia’s government from 1991 to 2019. Its government established the regional-state framework from which Benishangul-Gumuz emerged.
