Benjamin Silliman

Benjamin Silliman (1779–1864) was an American chemist and science educator who founded the American Journal of Science and helped establish Yale as a center of scientific education.

James Dwight Dana: An American geologist and mineralogist who taught at Yale and edited the American Journal of Science. Dana succeeded Silliman’s son as editor, extending the journal’s Yale-based scientific network.
