Bertrand du Guesclin

Bertrand du Guesclin (c. 1320–1380) was a French military commander who served Charles V during the Hundred Years’ War and was constable of France from 1370 until his death.

Charles V of France: King of France from 1364 to 1380, whose rule strengthened royal authority and recovered territory from England. Du Guesclin served Charles V and led the military recovery that advanced the king’s strategy.
Fabian strategy: A strategy that avoids decisive battles and wears down an opponent through delay, harassment, and selective attacks. Du Guesclin’s cautious operations against English forces are often associated with this approach.
