Beslan school siege

A hostage crisis in Beslan, Russia, from September 1 to 3, 2004, in which armed militants seized School Number One and more than 330 people died, most during the chaotic rescue operation.

School Number One: The Beslan school seized by militants on September 1, 2004, during the town’s annual first-day-of-school ceremony. The building’s crowded rooms and gymnasium became the hostage crisis’s main sites.
