Bikont

Bikonts are a proposed major eukaryotic lineage whose ancestral cells had two flagella. The grouping includes Archaeplastida and SAR, though its evolutionary boundaries remain debated.

Last eukaryotic common ancestor: The most recent ancestral population shared by all living eukaryotes. Bikont ancestry is reconstructed from traits proposed for early eukaryotes.
Ciliary rootlet: A cytoskeletal structure extending from the base of a cilium or flagellum. Differences in rootlet organization helped motivate broad divisions among eukaryotes.
