Bill Gold

Bill Gold (1921–2018) was an American graphic designer whose film posters combined striking imagery and typography to capture a movie’s tone and draw audiences.

Casablanca: A 1942 romantic drama directed by Michael Curtiz and set during World War II. Gold’s poster used a painted portrait of Humphrey Bogart to evoke the film’s romance and wartime danger.
Film poster: A printed or digital advertisement that promotes a film through imagery, title lettering, and release information. Gold worked within this format, using its limited space to make a film instantly recognizable.
