Bill Tilden

Bill Tilden (William Tatem Tilden II, 1893–1953) was an American tennis player who dominated men’s singles in the 1920s and helped popularize the sport internationally.

1920 Wimbledon Championships: The 1920 Wimbledon tournament, where Bill Tilden won his first men’s singles title. His first Wimbledon victory began a run of three consecutive singles championships.
Tennis serve: The stroke that begins a tennis point by sending the ball into the opponent’s service box. Tilden developed a powerful, varied serve that gave him control of points.
Henri Cochet: A French tennis player who won multiple major singles titles and helped France dominate the Davis Cup in the 1920s. Cochet became one of Tilden’s most consequential international rivals.
