BirdLife International

BirdLife International is a global partnership of conservation organizations working to protect birds, their habitats, and biodiversity through research, advocacy, and local conservation.

Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas: Sites identified for their global importance to bird populations and biodiversity. BirdLife’s network identifies and promotes these sites as priorities for conservation.
National Audubon Society: A United States nonprofit organization devoted to bird conservation and habitat protection. It is one of the national organizations in BirdLife’s global partnership.
International Council for Bird Preservation: An international organization founded in 1922 to coordinate bird conservation across national borders. It was BirdLife International’s predecessor organization.
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora: An international treaty regulating trade in wild animals and plants to prevent threats to their survival. BirdLife’s expertise informs international decisions about trade affecting threatened birds.
IUCN Red List: A global assessment system that classifies species by extinction risk. BirdLife contributes assessments of bird species to this widely used conservation resource.
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds: A United Kingdom conservation charity focused on birds and their habitats. The RSPB is BirdLife’s UK partner and a major contributor to its global work.
Max Nicholson: A British conservationist and ornithologist who helped establish international bird-conservation cooperation. Nicholson was a leading founder of the International Council for Bird Preservation.
Ramsar Convention: An international treaty for the conservation and wise use of wetlands. BirdLife’s site data helps identify wetlands important to birds and other biodiversity.
African-Eurasian Migratory Landbirds Action Plan: An international framework for conserving migratory landbirds across Africa and Eurasia. BirdLife helped develop this action plan to coordinate conservation across migration routes.
BirdLife Data Zone: BirdLife’s online resource for information on bird species, sites, and conservation status. It makes the partnership’s assessments and site data available for conservation planning.
