Black stork

The black stork (Ciconia nigra) is a large wading bird with mostly black plumage, a white belly, and a broad range across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Ciconia: Ciconia is a genus of large storks found across much of the world. The black stork is one of the genus’s six living species.
Palearctic realm: The Palearctic is a biogeographic realm covering Europe, North Africa, and much of Asia. Much of the black stork’s breeding range lies within this realm.
Estonia: Estonia is a country in northeastern Europe on the Baltic Sea. Its forests and wetlands support a notable breeding population of black storks.
White stork: The white stork (Ciconia ciconia) is a large, mostly white stork with black flight feathers. It is the black stork’s closest familiar European counterpart and is far less secretive.
Habitat fragmentation: Habitat fragmentation is the division of continuous habitat into smaller, isolated patches. Fragmented forests and wetlands can disrupt nesting and feeding areas used by black storks.
Stork: Storks are large, long-legged wading birds in the family Ciconiidae. This broader family places the black stork among its close relatives.
Sub-Saharan Africa: Sub-Saharan Africa is the region of Africa south of the Sahara Desert. Parts of the black stork population winter in this region.
