Boise

Boise is the capital and largest city of Idaho, in the state’s southwestern part along the Boise River.

Boise River: A river in southwestern Idaho that flows through Boise and joins the Snake River. The river runs through the city and shaped its settlement and development.
Fort Boise: A United States Army post established in 1863 near the site of present-day Boise. The fort helped prompt the nearby settlement that became Boise.
Government of Idaho: The system of state institutions that administers Idaho’s laws and public services. Boise houses the state government and its principal offices.
Meridian, Idaho: A city in southwestern Idaho, west of Boise and within the Boise metropolitan area. Meridian has grown rapidly but does not serve as Idaho’s capital.
