Bolero

Bolero is a family of romantic song and dance styles that originated in Cuba and spread across Latin America. Its forms combine lyrical love songs with distinctive rhythms and regional musical traditions.

Cuban bolero: The Cuban song style that emerged in the nineteenth century, pairing romantic lyrics with guitar-led rhythms. It is the source tradition from which Latin American bolero developed.

Trio Los Panchos: A Mexican vocal-and-guitar trio founded in 1944, known for romantic Latin American songs. Their recordings popularized a polished trio sound associated worldwide with bolero.
Trova: A Cuban tradition of singer-guitarists performing poetic songs, often about love and social life. Trova musicians carried bolero through intimate guitar-and-voice performance.
Guitar: A fretted string instrument played by plucking or strumming its strings. Guitar accompaniment anchors the early Cuban song form and later trios.
