Bosporan Kingdom

An ancient state centered on the Cimmerian Bosporus, around the Strait of Kerch, that linked Greek colonies and local peoples from the fifth century BCE to the fourth century CE.

Cimmerian Bosporus: The ancient name for the Strait of Kerch, connecting the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The kingdom took its name and strategic position from this passage.
Bosporan coinage: Coins issued by Bosporan rulers and cities, including gold staters and copper denominations. Its changing designs and standards reveal royal authority and the kingdom’s commercial networks.
Nymphaeum: An ancient Greek city on the Crimean shore of the Cimmerian Bosporus, south of Panticapaeum. Its archaeological remains document a major settlement within the kingdom’s core territory.
