Bouncer

A venue worker who controls entry and responds to disruptive behavior, commonly at bars and nightclubs.

Door policy: Rules a venue uses to decide who may enter and under what conditions. Bouncers apply a venue’s entry rules at the door.
Access control: The management of who or what may enter a place or use a resource. Admission decisions are one form of access control performed at a venue entrance.
Security guard: A worker assigned to protect people or property and deter or respond to security threats. Security guards may have broader duties than door staff at entertainment venues.
Discrimination in nightlife: Unequal treatment of people in bars, clubs, and other nightlife settings. Subjective door decisions can exclude people on discriminatory grounds.
ID checking: The examination of identity documents to verify a person’s identity or age. Checking identification helps bouncers enforce age limits and entry requirements.
Use of force: Physical force applied to control a person or situation. Physical intervention may occur, but must be lawful and proportionate.
Doorman: An employee who greets visitors and manages entry to a building or establishment. Doormen often provide hospitality and access service without the bouncer’s conflict-focused duties.
Nightclub violence: Violence occurring in or around nightclubs and similar nightlife venues. Bouncers encounter and may influence incidents of violence in nightlife spaces.
Crowd management: The planning and control of people moving through or gathering in a space. Bouncers help prevent congestion and manage crowds inside and outside venues.
Duty of care: A legal or professional obligation to take reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable harm. Venue staff may owe patrons duties while controlling access and responding to danger.
