Božena Němcová

Božena Němcová (1820–1862) was a Czech writer whose work helped shape modern Czech literature. Her novel The Grandmother and her collections and adaptations of folk tales are central to her legacy.

Czech National Revival: A cultural movement that revitalized Czech language and national identity from the late eighteenth century into the nineteenth. Němcová became a prominent literary figure as Czech language and culture were being renewed.
