Breakthrough Listen

Breakthrough Listen is a scientific program that searches for radio and optical signals that could indicate technology beyond Earth. It uses large telescopes to survey stars, galaxies, and other astronomical targets.

Radio astronomy: The study of celestial objects through radio waves emitted or reflected in space. Radio telescopes collect much of the program’s data across wide frequency ranges.
Yuri Milner: A Russian-born entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded the Breakthrough Initiatives. His funding launched Breakthrough Listen as a long-term search program.
TRAPPIST-1: A nearby ultracool dwarf star with seven known terrestrial-sized planets. Breakthrough Listen has searched its system for radio emissions.
