Brian Mulroney

Brian Mulroney was Canada’s 18th prime minister, serving from 1984 to 1993 as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. His governments pursued free trade with the United States and introduced the Goods and Services Tax.

Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement: A 1988 agreement that reduced trade barriers between Canada and the United States. Mulroney negotiated and championed the agreement that became a foundation of continental free trade.
