British nationalism

British nationalism is the political and cultural promotion of a shared national identity encompassing the United Kingdom or its constituent nations. Its meanings range from unionist attachment to the UK to advocacy of a distinct British nation.

Acts of Union 1707: Legislation joined the kingdoms of England and Scotland into the Kingdom of Great Britain. The union created the British state around which a shared identity could form.
Nationalism: A political principle that treats a nation as a source of collective identity and political legitimacy. British nationalism is one expression of this broader political principle.
