British Overseas Territories

British Overseas Territories are territories under British sovereignty that are constitutionally separate from the United Kingdom. Most govern their domestic affairs through local institutions, while the United Kingdom retains responsibility for matters such as defence and foreign relations.

British Dependent Territories: The former official name for the territories now called British Overseas Territories, used from 1981 to 2002. The name change marked a shift toward recognizing these territories’ distinct status.
