Bruce Beutler

Bruce Beutler is an American immunologist who shared the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries about innate immunity.

Jules Hoffmann: Jules Hoffmann is a French immunologist who shared the 2011 Nobel Prize for discoveries about innate immunity. Hoffmann independently established Toll signaling in fruit flies, complementing Beutler’s mammalian findings.
Toll-like receptor 4: Toll-like receptor 4 is an innate immune receptor that detects bacterial lipopolysaccharide and activates inflammatory signaling. Beutler identified TLR4 as the receptor responsible for responses to bacterial endotoxin.
