Buckingham Canal

The Buckingham Canal is a historic navigable waterway along India’s Coromandel Coast, extending from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to Marakkanam in Tamil Nadu.

Cochrane Canal: A canal built in the nineteenth century in the Madras Presidency, later incorporated into the Buckingham Canal system. Its construction north of Madras supplied an early section of the route.

George Buckingham: A British colonial administrator who served as Governor of Madras from 1875 to 1880. The canal took its name from the governor during whose tenure its southern reach was developed.
