Budapest Metro

The underground railway network serving Budapest, Hungary, with four lines connecting the city center and surrounding districts. Its first line, opened in 1896, was the first underground railway on the European continent.

M1 Metro Line: The oldest Budapest Metro line, opened in 1896 and running between Vörösmarty tér and Mexikói út. This historic line forms the network's first route and remains a distinct operating line.
Millennium Underground Railway: The original electric underground railway beneath Andrássy Avenue, opened in Budapest in 1896. It is the historic M1 line from which the metro network developed.
Budapest Keleti railway station: Budapest's principal international railway station, located in the city's eastern center. The M2 and M4 connect this major rail gateway to the metro network.
London Underground: The rapid transit network serving London, opened in 1863 as the world's first underground railway. It predates Budapest's metro, while Budapest's first line pioneered electric underground operation on the continent.
M2 Metro Line: A Budapest Metro line running east–west between Déli pályaudvar and Örs vezér tere. Its cross-city route links Buda and Pest beneath the Danube.
Budapest Millennium celebrations: The 1896 celebrations marking one thousand years since the traditional Magyar conquest of the Carpathian Basin. The railway opened as part of the infrastructure built for the celebrations.
Budapest Nyugati railway station: A major railway station in central Budapest, opened in 1877 and served by national and suburban trains. The M3 provides a nearby metro connection for passengers using this station.
Glasgow Subway: A circular underground railway serving Glasgow, opened in 1896. It opened in the same year as Budapest's first line but uses a distinct circular layout.
M3 Metro Line: A north–south Budapest Metro line running between Újpest-központ and Kőbánya-Kispest. It is the network's longest line and carries a major share of north–south travel.
Andrássy Avenue: A grand Budapest boulevard connecting the city center with City Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first metro line was built beneath the avenue to connect central Pest with the park.
