Buddhist hagiography

Buddhist hagiography consists of narratives recounting the lives and exemplary deeds of Buddhas, bodhisattvas, monks, nuns, and other Buddhist figures. These accounts present religious ideals through stories of awakening, devotion, teaching, and miraculous power.

Buddhist literature: Texts produced, preserved, or studied within Buddhist traditions. Hagiographies form a narrative strand within Buddhism’s much broader textual heritage.
Buddhacharita: A Sanskrit epic poem by Aśvaghoṣa recounting the life of the Buddha. This influential poem gives the Buddha’s biography a courtly literary form.
