Buyeo

Buyeo was an ancient Korean kingdom in Manchuria, flourishing after Old Chosŏn fell. It is traditionally regarded as an ancestor of Goguryeo and Baekje.

Old Joseon: Old Joseon was an early Korean polity traditionally associated with Dangun and centered in northern Korea and southern Manchuria. Buyeo emerged in the northern Manchurian world after Old Joseon’s collapse.

Baekje: Baekje was one of Korea’s Three Kingdoms, ruling southwestern Korea from the first century BCE to 660 CE. Baekje origin traditions trace its founding lineage to Buyeo.
Daeso of Buyeo: Daeso was a king of Buyeo who appears in accounts of its conflict with Goguryeo. His defeat and death mark a major turning point in Buyeo’s rivalry with Goguryeo.
Yemaek: Yemaek is a historical ethnocultural designation associated with ancient peoples of Manchuria and the Korean peninsula. Buyeo is commonly situated among Yemaek-speaking populations of the region.
Buyeo law: Buyeo law was the kingdom’s customary legal order, described in ancient Chinese accounts. Recorded penalties reveal how Buyeo enforced social hierarchy and public order.
