Caen

Caen is a city in Normandy, France, shaped by medieval rule, wartime destruction, and postwar reconstruction. It was a major objective and battlefield during the 1944 Battle of Normandy.

Château de Caen: A large medieval fortress in central Caen, founded by William the Conqueror around 1060. Its surviving walls anchor the city’s Norman ducal history.
