Cai Chusheng

Cai Chusheng (1906–1968) was a Chinese film director and screenwriter whose socially critical films include Fishing Song and The Spring River Flows East.

The Spring River Flows East: A 1947 Chinese film directed by Cai Chusheng and Zheng Junli, tracing a family’s hardship across wartime and postwar China. This epic is Cai’s best-known collaboration and a landmark of socially engaged cinema.
Zheng Junli: A Chinese actor and film director who co-directed The Spring River Flows East with Cai Chusheng. Their partnership produced Cai’s most ambitious and widely remembered film.
