Camera angle

Camera angle is the camera’s position and orientation relative to a subject. It shapes perspective, apparent power relationships, and image composition.

Camera position: The camera’s location relative to the subject and scene. Changing position alters viewpoint, spatial relationships, and visible background.
Eye-level shot: A shot made with the camera near the subject’s eye height. It presents the subject from a familiar, comparatively neutral viewpoint.
Over-the-shoulder shot: A shot framed from behind one subject, including part of that subject in the foreground. Its viewpoint places the camera near one participant in a conversation.
Camera framing: The selection and arrangement of what appears within a camera’s view. Framing concerns what is included; angle concerns the camera’s position and orientation.
Camera orientation: The direction in which a camera is pointed or rotated. Tilting or rotating the camera changes the angle even when its location stays fixed.
High-angle shot: A shot made with the camera looking down toward the subject. The downward viewpoint can make a subject appear smaller or more vulnerable.
Point-of-view shot: A shot that presents the scene from a character’s apparent visual perspective. Camera placement and orientation make the image feel tied to a character’s gaze.
Camera movement: A change in camera position or orientation during a shot. Movement describes change over time, while angle can describe a single viewpoint.
Perspective (visual arts): The representation of three-dimensional space and depth on a two-dimensional surface. Camera angle shapes how depth and spatial relationships appear in the image.
Low-angle shot: A shot made with the camera looking upward toward the subject. The upward viewpoint can make a subject appear imposing or powerful.
