Camille Jordan

Camille Jordan (1838–1922) was a French mathematician whose work shaped group theory and gave a systematic exposition of Galois theory.

Group theory: The study of groups, algebraic structures that encode symmetry through an operation. Jordan helped establish group theory as a systematic branch of mathematics.
