Card manipulation

Card manipulation is a branch of conjuring that uses sleight of hand to secretly control, reveal, or transform playing cards.

False shuffle: A shuffle that appears to mix a deck while preserving some or all of its order. It lets a performer retain control of selected cards while apparently mixing the deck.
Pass (card sleight): A concealed rearrangement that secretly transfers a packet from one part of a deck to another. It can bring a controlled card to the top while the deck appears undisturbed.
Dai Vernon: A Canadian-American magician celebrated for close-up magic and influential card sleights. His work helped establish modern standards for deceptive, economical card handling.
Card magic: A branch of magic in which playing cards are used to create surprising effects. Card manipulation supplies many of its secret methods and visual moments.
Card flourishing: The performance of visually elaborate movements and displays using playing cards. Unlike concealed conjuring methods, flourishing usually makes dexterity itself the visible effect.
False cut: A cut that appears to change a deck's order while leaving its relevant arrangement intact. It disguises retained order between stronger moments of apparent mixing.
Classic pass: A pass that exchanges the upper and lower packets of a deck through coordinated finger movement. Its invisible timing and cover illustrate the demands of a deck transposition.
Edward Marlo: An American magician and author known for developing and documenting card techniques. His prolific writings expanded the technical vocabulary of card magic.
Close-up magic: Magic performed at close range, often with small objects and a limited audience. Card sleights are especially suited to intimate settings where handling is visible.
Gambling sleight of hand: Manual techniques used to secretly influence the handling or outcome of gambling games. It shares deceptive mechanics with card conjuring but serves practical advantage rather than staged astonishment.
