Caroline Herschel

Caroline Herschel (1750–1848) was a German-born British astronomer who discovered several comets and became the first woman in Britain to receive a salary for scientific work.

William Herschel: A German-born British astronomer who discovered Uranus and built powerful reflecting telescopes. Her brother and principal collaborator trained her in astronomy and shared observations.
Comet of 1786: A periodic comet discovered by Caroline Herschel in August 1786, now designated 35P/Herschel–Rigollet. This was the first comet she discovered and established her reputation as an observer.
