Caroline Islands

The Caroline Islands are an archipelago in the western Pacific, comprising the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.

Federated States of Micronesia: A sovereign Pacific nation made up of four states spread across the Caroline Islands. Its four states form the eastern and central portion of the archipelago.
Spanish East Indies: A Spanish colonial possession in Asia and the Pacific, administered from the Philippines. Spain claimed the Caroline Islands as part of this colonial domain.
Tosiwo Nakayama: A Micronesian political leader who became the first president of the Federated States of Micronesia. He led the transition from the trust territory to the new federation.
Nan Madol: An archaeological site of artificial islets and stone structures off Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. Its monumental ruins are a major heritage site within the archipelago.

Mariana Islands: A Pacific archipelago north of the Caroline Islands, including Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. Its northern location and divided political status distinguish it from the Carolines.
