Carpool

A travel arrangement in which two or more people share a car journey, often commuting together and dividing travel costs.

Ride matching: The process of connecting people with compatible travel routes and schedules. It pairs potential carpoolers whose destinations and departure times align.
Commuting: Regular travel between a person's home and workplace or place of study. Repeated routes and schedules make commuting a common setting for carpools.
Traffic congestion: A condition in which road demand exceeds capacity, slowing or disrupting vehicle movement. Each carpool can replace multiple separate cars during congested periods.

Public transport: Passenger transport services available for shared use, commonly operating on fixed routes or schedules. Unlike a carpool, it pools passengers without requiring them to share a privately arranged car.
Cost sharing: An arrangement in which multiple people divide the expense of a shared activity or service. Carpoolers may split fuel, tolls, or parking costs.
Vanpool: A shared commute in a van, typically carrying more passengers than an ordinary carpool. It serves similar commuting needs with a larger vehicle and more riders.
