Carrie Chapman Catt

Carrie Chapman Catt was an American women’s suffrage leader who helped secure ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment and founded the League of Women Voters.

Susan B. Anthony: Susan B. Anthony was an American reformer and women’s rights activist who campaigned for women’s suffrage. Anthony mentored Catt and selected her to lead the National American Woman Suffrage Association.
National American Woman Suffrage Association: The National American Woman Suffrage Association was the leading American organization campaigning for women’s voting rights. Catt directed the association as it coordinated the campaign for a federal amendment.
Ripon College: Ripon College is a liberal arts college in Ripon, Wisconsin, founded in 1851. Catt attended Ripon College before beginning her career in education and suffrage organizing.
League of Women Voters: The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan American organization that promotes informed civic participation. Catt founded the league in 1920 to prepare women to participate in public life after enfranchisement.

Nineteenth Amendment: The Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits denying the vote on account of sex. Ratification of this amendment was the central federal objective of Catt’s final suffrage campaign.
