Carson McCullers

Carson McCullers (1917–1967) was an American novelist, short-story writer, and playwright. Her fiction often explores loneliness, estrangement, and the lives of outsiders in the American South.

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter: Carson McCullers’s 1940 novel follows a deaf-mute man and the isolated people drawn to him. Her first novel established her focus on characters seeking connection across profound differences.
