Cartridge

A replaceable container that holds material for use in a device. Its shape and fittings let the device store, feed, or apply that material.

Ink cartridge: A replaceable reservoir that supplies ink to a printer. It is the familiar printing form, designed to deliver ink through a printer’s feed system.
Cartridge interface: The mechanical and functional connection between a cartridge and its host device. Its dimensions and contacts determine whether the device can accept and use the cartridge.
Container: An object designed to hold or transport material. A cartridge is a specialized container shaped to work with a device.
Refillable cartridge: A cartridge designed to be replenished with material rather than discarded after depletion. It contrasts with single-use cartridges by allowing the same container to serve repeatedly.
Toner cartridge: A replaceable unit containing powdered toner for a laser printer or copier. It stores and meters the powder used to form printed images.
Fluid connector: A fitting that joins fluid pathways while controlling or preventing leakage. Many cartridges depend on a sealed connection to feed liquid or gas into a device.
Packaging: Materials and structures used to contain, protect, handle, or present products. Cartridges belong to packaging designed for functional use rather than storage alone.
Bulk ink system: A printer ink supply that feeds the printer from larger refillable reservoirs rather than small cartridges. It replaces frequent cartridge changes with larger, separately replenished ink supplies.
Water filter cartridge: A replaceable filter unit that removes selected contaminants from water. It combines filtering material and a housing that fits a water-treatment device.
Check valve: A valve that permits flow in one direction and restricts reverse flow. It can keep material from flowing back into a cartridge after dispensing.
