Carvacrol

Carvacrol is a monoterpenoid phenol found in essential oils, especially oregano and thyme. It is used as a flavoring and studied for antimicrobial activity.

Phenols: Phenols are organic compounds with a hydroxyl group bonded directly to an aromatic ring. Carvacrol’s hydroxyl group and aromatic ring place it in this chemical family.
Oregano oil: Oregano oil is an essential oil distilled from plants in the genus Origanum, containing carvacrol in many varieties. It is a major natural source of carvacrol and a common subject of antimicrobial testing.

Staphylococcus aureus: Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium that can cause infections in humans and other animals. Its susceptibility is often examined in laboratory studies of carvacrol’s antimicrobial action.
