Casiquiare Canal

The Casiquiare Canal is a natural waterway in Venezuela that carries water from the upper Orinoco River into the Negro River, connecting the Orinoco and Amazon basins.

Orinoco River: A major river of northern South America that flows eastward across Venezuela to the Atlantic Ocean. The Casiquiare branches from its upper course and diverts part of its flow.
Francisco de Orellana: A Spanish explorer who led the first known European expedition down the Amazon River in 1541–1542. His expedition helped draw European attention to the connected waterways of northern South America.
Casiquiare Natural Canal: The navigable natural channel that carries upper Orinoco water toward the Negro River. This name emphasizes the canal’s role as a physical water route between basins.
