Hyrcanian forests : Ancient temperate forests along the southern Caspian Sea, especially in northern Iran and southeastern Azerbaijan. These forests form the ecoregion’s defining vegetation and give it its name.
Hyrcanian Forests UNESCO World Heritage Site : A UNESCO World Heritage property protecting forest areas in northern Iran. Its protected sites preserve representative portions of the ecoregion’s exceptional forest heritage.
Deforestation : The removal or conversion of forest cover by people. Forest clearance for agriculture, settlements, and infrastructure has reduced and fragmented habitat.
