Catiline

Lucius Sergius Catilina was a Roman senator who led a failed conspiracy against the Roman Republic in 63 BCE. His revolt became a defining crisis of the late Republic.

Catilinarian conspiracy: A plot led by Catiline to seize power in Rome, exposed and defeated in 63 BCE. This is the organized plot that made Catiline a central figure in Rome’s political crisis.
Lucius Cornelius Sulla: A Roman general and dictator who used civil war and proscriptions to reshape the Republic in the 80s BCE. Catiline served under Sulla and benefited from the political order created by his victory.
