Celebrity politics

Celebrity politics is the use of fame gained through entertainment or public life to shape political debate, mobilize support, or win public office.

Political celebrity: Public recognition that gives a political figure influence beyond formal office or party position. Celebrity politics converts preexisting recognition into political attention and leverage.
Ronald Reagan: An American actor and politician who served as the 40th president of the United States. His Hollywood career preceded a path through the California governorship to the presidency.
Technocracy: A system or approach in which technical experts hold substantial authority over policy decisions. It grounds political authority in expertise rather than public fame.
Political communication: The production and exchange of messages about politics among institutions, media, and the public. Celebrity politics is one way political messages gain visibility and circulate.
Parasocial interaction: A one-sided sense of personal connection that an audience member develops with a media figure. Familiarity with entertainers can make their political messages feel personally trustworthy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger: An Austrian-born American actor and politician who served as governor of California from 2003 to 2011. His film-star fame helped support a successful campaign for state office.
Political dynasty: A family whose members hold political office across generations. Inherited political networks can create visibility and influence without entertainment celebrity.
Political participation: Activities through which people seek to influence government or political outcomes. Celebrity advocacy can encourage supporters to vote, donate, protest, or organize.
Agenda-setting theory: The theory that media emphasis influences which issues audiences consider important. Celebrity attention can push selected political issues onto the public agenda.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: A Ukrainian actor and comedian who became president of Ukraine in 2019. His television persona as a fictional president preceded his real presidential campaign.
