Central African Bush War

The Central African Bush War was an armed conflict in the Central African Republic between President François Bozizé’s government and rebel groups, including the Union of Democratic Forces for Unity.

Central African Republic coup d'état (2003): A 2003 coup that brought François Bozizé to power in the Central African Republic. Bozizé’s seizure of power set the political conditions for later insurgency.
Battle of Birao: A November 2006 battle in which UFDR forces captured Birao, a town in northeastern Central African Republic. The capture of Birao marked a major rebel advance.
Abakar Sabone: A Central African politician and rebel leader associated with the Popular Army for the Restoration of the Republic and Democracy. His group joined the insurgent challenge to Bozizé’s government.
