Central Federal District

A federal district in western Russia comprising Moscow and 17 surrounding federal subjects. It is an administrative grouping overseen by a presidential envoy, not a constituent federal subject.

Moscow: The capital of Russia and a federal city in the Central Federal District. It is the district’s administrative center and largest city.
Presidential envoy to the Central Federal District: The presidential representative responsible for federal oversight in the Central Federal District. This office carries out the district’s central coordinating function.
Moscow Oblast: A federal subject of Russia surrounding Moscow, but administratively separate from the city. It forms a populous part of the district outside the federal capital.
