Central Plains War

The Central Plains War was a 1930 Chinese civil war in which Chiang Kai-shek defeated a coalition of regional military leaders, strengthening Nationalist control over China.

Chiang Kai-shek: Chiang Kai-shek was a Chinese Nationalist military and political leader who headed the Republic of China for much of 1928–1949. He used military force and political deals to defeat the coalition and consolidate Nationalist authority.
Northern Expedition: The Northern Expedition was the 1926–1928 Nationalist military campaign that overthrew several major warlords and established a new national government. Its incomplete political settlement left regional commanders powerful and divided.
Chinese Civil War: The Chinese Civil War was the prolonged conflict between the Kuomintang and Chinese Communist Party, interrupted by periods of cooperation against Japan. The war was one episode in the wider contests that shaped Republican China.
Jiangxi Soviet: The Jiangxi Soviet was a Communist base area in southeastern China established in 1931 and governed by the Chinese Communist Party. It became a major Nationalist target after the anti-Chiang coalition had been defeated.

Yan Xishan: Yan Xishan was a Chinese warlord who governed Shanxi for decades and pursued an independent regional political base. His alliance with Chiang’s opponents helped turn the conflict into a broad civil war.
Nanjing decade: The Nanjing decade was the period from 1927 to 1937 when the Nationalist government based in Nanjing sought to unify and modernize China. The conflict exposed the limits of the government’s claimed national unification.
