Central Visayas

Central Visayas is an administrative region of the Philippines comprising Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental. Its islands lie in the central part of the Visayas.

Cebu: Cebu is a Philippine island and province in the Visayas, with Cebu City as its provincial capital. Cebu is one of the three provinces that made up Central Visayas.
Mactan–Cebu International Airport: Mactan–Cebu International Airport is an international airport on Mactan Island serving Cebu and the surrounding region. It is the region’s principal international air gateway.
Battle of Mactan: The Battle of Mactan was a 1521 clash in which forces led by Lapulapu defeated Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition. The battle is a defining event in Cebu’s early colonial-era history.
Cebuano language: Cebuano is an Austronesian language spoken widely in the central and southern Philippines. It is a major language across Cebu and Bohol and parts of the former region.
Bohol: Bohol is a Philippine island province in the Central Visayas, known for its limestone hills and coral reefs. Bohol is one of the region’s three provinces.
Port of Cebu: The Port of Cebu is a seaport complex serving Cebu City and other parts of the central Philippines. Ferries and cargo routes link the region’s islands through this port.
Lapulapu: Lapulapu was a ruler of Mactan remembered for resisting Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition in 1521. His resistance is commemorated at a major historical site in the region.
Sinulog: Sinulog is an annual religious and cultural festival held in Cebu City in honor of the Santo Niño. The festival expresses Cebu’s Catholic heritage and draws visitors to the region.
Negros Oriental: Negros Oriental is a province on the southeastern part of Negros Island in the Philippines. It formed Central Visayas’ western edge before the region’s 2024 reorganization.
University of the Philippines Cebu: The University of the Philippines Cebu is a public research university in Cebu City. It is among the regional institutions supporting higher education and research.
