Centre-right politics

Centre-right politics is an orientation generally to the right of the political centre, combining support for market-based economics and social order with moderate or traditionalist positions.

Economic liberalism: An economic philosophy favoring private property, competitive markets, and limited state intervention. Market-based economics is a central strand of many centre-right platforms.
Centre-left politics: A political orientation combining moderate reform with support for social equality and a substantial role for government. It occupies the corresponding moderate position on the left and often favors stronger redistribution.
Christian Democratic Union of Germany: A German political party founded in 1945 that combines Christian-democratic, liberal, and conservative traditions. Its postwar politics exemplifies a major centre-right party built around a social-market economy.
Social market economy: An economic model combining market competition with social protections and public regulation. It captures the centre-right effort to pair market dynamism with social stability.
Social conservatism: A political outlook that favors preserving established social institutions, norms, and traditions. Traditionalist positions often give centre-right politics its social character.
Far-right politics: A political family marked by radical nationalism, authoritarianism, or exclusionary conceptions of the nation. It shows how centre-right politics differs from more radical and anti-pluralist right-wing movements.
Republican Party (United States): A major United States political party founded in 1854, encompassing conservative and other right-of-centre factions. Its changing coalition illustrates the range and tensions within American centre-right politics.
Privatization: The transfer of ownership or control of assets and services from the public sector to private actors. Centre-right governments have often used it to expand market provision and reduce state ownership.
Political centre: The moderate position or range of positions between the political left and right. Centre-right politics is defined partly by its position relative to the centre.
Libertarianism: A political philosophy that gives priority to individual liberty and sharply limits coercive state power. Its suspicion of state authority can conflict with centre-right support for social order.
