Charge (electricity)

Electric charge is a property of matter that produces and responds to electromagnetic forces. It comes in positive and negative forms and is measured in coulombs.

Coulomb's law: A law giving the electrostatic force between two point charges in terms of their separation and magnitudes. It quantifies the force between stationary charges.
Coulomb: The SI unit of electric charge, defined through the ampere and the elementary charge. It is the unit used to report amounts of charge.
Capacitor: An electrical component that stores energy in an electric field between conductors. It stores separated charge on its conductors.
Electric potential: Electric potential is electric potential energy per unit charge at a point. Potential describes energy per charge; charge is the property being measured.
Electric field: A vector field describing the electric force per unit positive test charge at each point. Charge creates electric fields, which in turn exert forces on other charges.
Positive and negative charge: The two signs of electric charge, which attract when unlike and repel when alike. The two signs distinguish how charged objects interact.
Electrostatics: The study of electric charges at rest and the fields and forces they produce. It treats the interactions of stationary charge as a subject in its own right.
Magnetic charge: A hypothetical isolated source of magnetic field, often called a magnetic monopole. Electric charges occur in nature; isolated magnetic charges have not been observed.
Electric current: The rate at which electric charge passes through a surface. Moving charge constitutes current.
Proton: A positively charged subatomic particle found in atomic nuclei. Its positive charge helps determine an atom's total charge.
