Charitable organization

A charitable organization is established to pursue public-benefit purposes such as relieving poverty, advancing education, or supporting health and community welfare. Its legal definition and tax treatment vary by jurisdiction.

Charitable purpose: An aim recognized by law as serving a public benefit and qualifying an organization for charitable status. Qualifying purposes define what a charitable organization may be established to pursue.
Food bank: A nonprofit organization that collects and distributes food to people experiencing hunger. Food banks are a direct form of charitable relief addressing food insecurity.
