Charles Algernon Parsons

Charles Algernon Parsons was an Irish-born British engineer and inventor who developed the practical steam turbine and advanced its use in electric power generation and marine propulsion.

Steam turbine: A rotary engine that extracts energy from expanding steam to produce mechanical work. Parsons’s central invention used multiple stages to expand steam and drive a shaft.
Electricity generation: The production of electrical energy from other forms of energy. Parsons’s turbines drove generators in power stations.
William Armstrong: A British engineer and industrialist known for hydraulic machinery, artillery, and engineering works. Parsons began his engineering career at Armstrong’s firm in Newcastle.
