Charles Trenet

Charles Trenet (1913–2001) was a French singer and songwriter whose buoyant, poetic songs helped shape modern chanson française, including the internationally known “La Mer.”

La Mer: A 1946 song by Charles Trenet that became an international standard, later adapted in English as “Beyond the Sea.” Its imagery of the sea and sweeping melody became Trenet’s signature worldwide.
