Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor

Charles VI was Holy Roman Emperor from 1711 to 1740 and ruler of the Habsburg monarchy. His Pragmatic Sanction sought to secure his daughter Maria Theresa’s succession to his hereditary lands.

Pragmatic Sanction of 1713: A Habsburg succession law allowing female inheritance of the monarchy’s hereditary lands under specified conditions. Charles issued it to preserve his lands as one inheritance for Maria Theresa.
